RICHMOND, VIRGINIA — Today, Eric Sundberg officially announced the launch of his campaign for Richmond's 7th city council district, marking the beginning of a grassroots movement aimed at bringing about transformative change and equity for all residents.
With years of community engagement and a deep understanding of Richmond's challenges, Sundberg brings a fresh perspective to city politics. His campaign is centered on the core objective of ensuring that Richmond works for the many, not the few, by prioritizing the needs of working-class citizens, addressing systemic inequalities, and advocating for policies that uplift marginalized communities.
In his campaign announcement, Sundberg emphasized the urgent need for change in the city's governance, citing years of neglect and mismanagement that have disproportionately impacted working-class Richmonders. He highlighted the misuse of taxpayer dollars on vanity projects while essential services and amenities remain underfunded, contributing to rising poverty and housing insecurity.
Sundberg stressed it is time for Richmond to "dream again," and rally to build a better future. His vision for Richmond is one where no one goes hungry, no house sits empty, and no poverty holds back prosperity. He envisions a city where every resident has access to quality education, affordable housing, and economic opportunities, regardless of their bank account.
"I believe in a Richmond where everyone can thrive, not just survive," said Sundberg. "Our city has the resources and potential to be a beacon of progress and equity, but it requires bold leadership and a commitment to putting people before profit. That's why I'm running for city council—to ensure that everyday people are heard, and every resident has the opportunity to build a better future."
Sundberg's campaign is built on the principle of collective action, recognizing that real change can only come from the community coming together to demand accountability and transparency from their elected officials. He invites residents to join him in this movement for change and pledges to be a champion for their interests every step of the way.
